First suspected case of PPI-triggered parasomnia

Doctors are reporting the first suspected case of parasomnia caused by high dose omeprazole after treating a woman who jumped out of bed and ran into a wall while sleeping.
The 65-year-old was referred to the sleep clinic at Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, UK, for evaluation of abnormal behaviours at night that sometimes led to minor injuries.
The issue had started 12 months earlier while on holiday, the patient recalled, with her travelling companion witnessing the first episodes.
“She had been dreaming of an argument and jumped out of bed, ran at the wall and hit her head,” the doctors wrote in BMJ Case Reports.
