Former police officer who killed Clare Nowland spared prison again
A former police officer convicted of killing an elderly woman with a taser strike has been spared prison a second time after a court dismissed a prosecutors’ sentence appeal.
Then Senior Constable Kristian White, 35, fired his taser at 95-year-old Clare Nowland after being called to Yallambee Lodge nursing home in Cooma, southern NSW, on 17 May, 2023.
He was given a two-year good behaviour bond in March and ordered to complete community service after a NSW Supreme Court jury found him guilty of manslaughter.
An appeals court ruled on Wednesday that the decision not to imprison the former officer rightly took into account hostility against him.
