Four doctors to repay $1.2m in Medicare rebates: PSR review

Four doctors have agreed to repay almost $1.2 million in Medicare rebates after the Professional Services Review uncovered shortcomings in their billing practices.
In one case, a GP will repay $220,000, in part for including “the same goals and services” in their management plans despite the plans being for different patients with varying needs.
They were also criticised by the watchdog for not always obtaining “secondary confirmation” of the clinical need for ongoing prescriptions when writing codeine scripts.
In its November report, the watchdog said another GP had agreed to repay $435,000 in rebates.
