From performing cornea transplants to packing mascara tubes: Dr Jacqueline Beltz on her cosmetic adventure

The Melbourne ophthalmologist says the task of making a mascara for sensitive eyes proved harder than she'd imagined.

In the three years it took to create a new mascara for her sensitive-eyed patients, there were many moments that ophthalmologist Dr Jacqueline Beltz really wished she had not bothered.

In the end it was the product packaging that almost brought her undone.

“There was definitely a point where I had put in so much time, energy and money that I just had to keep going, but the packaging nearly got the better of me,” Dr Beltz tells 6minutes

“I remember wondering, how I can have the confidence to transplant one person’s cornea into another but be absolutely terrified to hit ‘approve’ on such a massive order of mascara tubes.”
