From physicians with love: Did Dr Sharmila Chandran dodge the $200,000 bullet?
Dr Sharmila Chandran has come out on top on a vote to force her out — again.
After two EGMs, two votes and close to half a million dollars, Dr Sharmila Chandran has, again, survived an attempt to remove her as president-elect of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
Members voted 74% to 26% to retain her in Wednesday’s ballot, a stronger result than the 65–35% split in the initial vote on 24 October (despite fewer voters overall).
It ends months of turmoil triggered by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) board’s vote of no confidence in August, which accused her of adversarial behaviour that contributed to a toxic culture.
Dr Chandran has rejected the claims, saying she was denied a fair chance to respond.
