From sepsis survivor to world traveller: Practice nurse wins $125,000 gap year
Yvonne Reynolds is ready for a break after decades of nursing and raising two children as a single parent.
It has been a long time coming, but after more than 42 years of nursing, Yvonne Reynolds is finally getting her gap year.
The Brisbane practice nurse and single mother of two is taking off on a 12-month, all-expenses-paid adventure after winning a $125,000 travel competition her daughter pushed her to enter.
“I grew up in South Africa under the apartheid regime, and I wasn’t able to do the traditional gap year and that work-in-England experience,” Ms Reynolds tells AusDoc.
“This was before Nelson Mandela was released in 1990, when the whole world then started to open up to young South Africans.
