Dr Rheannon Griffin was 19 when she discovered she was pregnant. She had no firm plans in life and had failed everything but maths and English in her final year of school.

But it was when she was placed on bed rest after going into preterm labour at just 25 weeks that an alternative future suddenly became clear.

“I had been admitted to Townsville University Hospital and I was initially terrified about what might happen to me and my baby, it was a crazy time,” she says.

“But I found so much comfort in the medical team that was looking after me.
