Gender dysphoria: Doctors clash over study tracking rates of young people who ‘desist’ treatment

This article has been corrected, see footnote.
New research on adolescents with gender dysphoria who abandon gender-affirming medical treatment has been criticised by transgender care specialists.
The study — conducted by clinicians at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead gender clinic in Sydney — goes on to suggest gender-affirming care does not alleviate co-occurring mental health conditions, such as anxiety and depression.
The researchers say their findings, published in Children last month, challenge the appropriateness of the transgender care model championed by doctors at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.
