Gender dysphoria: Puberty blockers court ruling thrown out

The controversial High Court judgment in the UK declaring children under 16 diagnosed with gender dysphoria lack Gillick competency to consent to puberty blocker treatment has been thrown out.
A legal challenge was launched against the Tavistock gender clinic in London by Keira Bell, who started taking puberty blockers as a teenager before having a double mastectomy four years later.
She subsequently decided to detransition and, in 2019, applied to the UK High Court for a declaration that under-16s should not be prescribed puberty blockers without a court assessment of their competency.
The High Court judges agreed, declaring last year that the treatment was largely experimental with little known about its long-term side effects.
