Godsend or bureaucratic mess? 10 years of the NDIS

GPs hope a long-awaited review of the 10-year-old National Disability Insurance Scheme will finally back them financially for the hours spent treating and advocating for patients with a disability.
The government-commissioned independent review of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will deliver its final report in October, with Minister for the NDIS Bill Shorten promising a “reboot” of the $36 billion-a-year scheme.
One GP hoping for change is Dr John Crimmins, who has 30 years’ experience in treating patients with developmental disabilities and has dealt with the NDIS since it began in 2013.
Around 75 of his patients are currently NDIS enrolled: a “much higher” number than the average GP.
