Govt launches review of GP supervisor funding

GP supervisors will be asked if they are getting enough cash to compensate for the costs of teaching registrars, as part of a government-commissioned review of training.
The Department of Health says it wants to know whether GPs involved in supervising registrars are being disadvantaged, compared with those who bring medical students into their practices or do no supervision.
There have been long-running claims that GP registrars can be loss-makers for many practices, because they tend to see fewer patients per hour than VR GPs and generate lower billings.
General Practice Supervisors Australia (GPSA) says a typical GP registrar will generate between 50% and 75% of the billings of a VR GP.
