Govt reveals $2000 ‘indicative’ payment for patient enrolment scheme

GP practices will receive around $2000 a year for each hospital frequent flyer they register under the Federal Government’s patient enrolment scheme, the AMA says.
After years of false starts, an enrolment scheme dubbed My Medicare will finally begin in October, letting patients register with their regular GP to access rebates for longer telephone consultations.
From August 2024, around $25 million will become available for practices that enrol frequent flyers — patients racking up 10 or more hospital attendances a year.
The AMA says it has received “indicative” dollar figures from health officials: $2000 per eligible patient in the first year of enrolment, plus a $500 bonus for “keeping people out of hospital”.
