Govt to stop autism ‘overservicing’ in NDIS and consider GP rebate for development checks
The Federal Government will consider a Medicare item for GP health checks for three-year-olds after announcing it will restrict National Disability Insurance Scheme support for developmental conditions and autism.
Minister for Health and Ageing Mark Butler told the National Press Club on Wednesday that 10% of all six-year-olds were in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which “most Australians would be alarmed to know”.
In mid-north NSW, 25% of six-year-old boys were in the NDIS, he said.
“Trends suggest that what is happening there is likely to happen elsewhere unless a better way is found.
