GP banned over stem cell therapy death

A GP who carried out experimental stem cell procedures, including on a woman with dementia who later died from complications, has been banned from practice for seven years.
Dr Ralph Bright, who worked as a cosmetic doctor in Sydney from 2000 onwards, showed a “reckless disregard for patient safety” over his stem cell treatments on two patients that were akin to “quack medicine”, a tribunal has found.
The NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal ruled Dr Bright had engaged in professional misconduct over the autologous stem cell therapies, as well as cases of peptide prescribing.
Dr Bright, founder of Macquarie Stem Cells Clinic, had voluntarily surrendered his registration on 31 August this year and was banned by the tribunal for reapplying for seven years.
