GP beneficiary of patient’s $30m estate cleared of boundary breaches ‘but disrespected peers’

A GP who won a legal battle over his elderly patient’s $30 million estate has been found guilty of professional misconduct — but cleared of allegations he breached professional boundaries to secure an inheritance. Â
For two years, Dr Peter Alexakis fought the Salvation Army in court over the estate of Raymond McClure, who died of metastatic colorectal cancer in 2017 at the age of 80.
The NSW Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC) also investigated allegations that Dr Alexakis breached professional boundaries during Mr McClure’s final months.Â
In both cases, the GP was accused of ‘grooming’ Mr McClure — who made his fortune trading property and shares — by visiting him frequently in hospital and introducing him to a solicitor who drafted two new wills.
