GP ‘beyond furious’ after airline lounge staff told her not to pump breastmilk
A GP says she was left furious and doubting herself after staff at an airline business lounge asked her to leave because she was pumping breastmilk.
Dr Elise Turner says she was in Virgin Australia’s Melbourne business lounge on Monday preparing a wearable pump when a senior staffer told her, “We don’t do that here.”
She says she managed to finish her pump then tried to explain that it was illegal under the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 to treat breastfeeding women differently from others.
Staff then asked her to leave because she was “making people uncomfortable”, she claimed.
