GP charged with indecently assaulting practice manager allowed to keep treating patients

The tribunal said practices could choose to implement 'risk management' strategies if they wanted

A GP charged with indecently assaulting a practice manager can keep working after a tribunal found he posed a “much smaller” risk to patients.

The practice manager originally lodged a complaint with the Medical Board of Australia in 2019, alleging that the GP sexually harassed her at work and home across a two-year period.

The GP was then suspended under emergency powers, before being permitted to keep practising while he waited for a full hearing.

But in April last year, police charged him with seven counts of indecent assault. As a result the medical board asked the WA State Administrative Tribunal to reinstate the emergency suspension.Â
