GP cleared of misconduct over nightclub sex with patient

A GP has been cleared of professional misconduct for having sex with a patient in a nightclub toilet, with a tribunal finding he did not recognise her until they became intimate.
Throughout a five-year legal saga, the Melbourne GP maintained that he had only recognised his patient part way through sex in the disabled toilet of St Kilda’s Hotel Esplanade in 2019.
He had originally faced charges of rape and sexual assault, but police dropped them in 2020.
However, the Medical Board of Australia accused the GP of breaching patient boundaries, based on the patient’s claim that the pair had recognised each other while ordering drinks.
