GP clinic in trouble over ‘rude’ weight loss texts

The UK practice has apologised to patients for unintentionally offending them with the SMS offer of a weight management program

Australian GPs eager to help patients lose their COVID-19 kilos may want to avoid an approach taken by a UK practice that got patients talking for all the wrong reasons.

Last week, the Ramsbottom Group Practice in Greater Manchester sent a text to all its adult patients asking if they’d like to join a weight management program.

The practice also advised that they could walk-in and have their height and weight measured.

But the offer was received poorly, with the ensuing fallout dubbed “weightgate” by one local and earning the practice social media infamy.
