Dr Danielle McMullen will officially be the next AMA president after no other doctor was nominated for the role.

The Queensland GP will be the first female president since Dr Rosanna Capolingua, elected in 2007, and the first unopposed presidential nominee since Dr Steve Hambleton in 2011.

But the vice-presidency is being contested by two Melbourne doctors — ophthalmologist Associate Professor Julian Rait and radiologist Dr Xavier Yu.

Dr McMullen said her first priority as AMA president would be to secure more funding for general practice.
