GP criticised over care of ‘absolutely emaciated’ child who died of TB

While missing the diagnosis was understandable, he should have monitored her after declaring her 'almost cachectic-looking', SA coroner says

A coroner has criticised a GP over his management and referral of an “outrageously thin” girl who eventually died from TB.

The Adelaide GP was singled out following an inquest into the death of Monineath (Fifi) Chum, which explored the care provided to the nine-year-old by three GPs across two practices.

Fifi died in February 2017, less than three weeks after an X-ray revealed she had pulmonary TB with massive cystic bronchiectasis.

She weighed 21kg when she was admitted to hospital, where doctors described her as “absolutely emaciated” and “outrageously thin”.
