A GP who contracted a fungal infection in hospital after a heart transplant has died, leaving his family searching for answers.
Dr Muhammad Hussain, 55, was one of five patients at Brisbane’s Prince Charles Hospital heart transplant unit infected with either aspergillus or lomentospora.
He died on 20 September, but his daughter, Muskaan, said the family only learnt about the cluster weeks later.
“Finding out what has been going on at the hospital [with other patients being infected] … it’s been quite shocking,” Ms Hussain told the ABC.
