GP facing $1 million defamation lawsuit says he’s on his own

Dr Adam Smith has been told he needs to find $400,000 to cover his legal fees should the case go to court

Dr Adam Smith has spent the past few months depositing large sums of money into the bank accounts of defence lawyers.

The reason has nothing to do with patient care. There is no AHPRA complaint, no negligence claim.

Instead, the Melbourne GP is the subject of a $1 million defamation lawsuit, filed by a Filipino doctor-turned-naturopath called Farrah Agustin-Bunch, who took objection to videos he posted on YouTube last year debunking numerous therapeutic claims she was making.

“She is spending the dollars big time against me. She’s clearly got money,” Dr Smith tells Australian Doctor over a coffee in Melbourne’s inner west.
