GP fails in legal bid to quash ‘unfair’ $517,000 PSR repayment order

A GP who took the Professional Services Review to court to avoid repaying $517,000 in Medicare rebates, arguing it was harsh and unfair, has lost his case.
Dr Khaled Dik, an 80-year-old GP who has a PhD in trauma and orthopaedic surgery, was ordered to repay 90% of Medicare benefits he had claimed for 14 MBS items across a one-year period.
The Professional Services Review (PSR) had found that Dr Dik failed to meet time requirements for Level C and Level D attendance items, used templates for care plan items and kept inadequate records for the removal of subcutaneous foreign bodies, among other findings.
It banned him from all Medicare items for 18 months
