GP guilty of helping patient use $18,500 in super to fund cosmetic liposuction
The GP misleadingly claimed the patient's obesity was life-threatening, the tribunal found.
A GP who helped a patient use $18,500 of her superannuation to fund liposuction by claiming it was for life-threatening obesity has been suspended for three months.
The Perth GP was found guilty of professional misconduct last month over “misleading” information on the patient’s early release of super application, including a suggestion that the patient would have bariatric surgery.
He had treated the patient for years, including for weight management, when she asked about abdominoplasty or liposuction in 2017, according to the State Administrative Tribunal of WA.
He referred her to a surgeon to discuss management of “fatty tissue around the midriff”.
