GP health checks for three-year-olds return to Medicare after 11-year gap
GPs will be able to use existing Medicare items for three-year-olds to identify those who might benefit from extra developmental support from the new Thriving Kids program.
The introduction of the Medicare Healthy Kids Check on 1 November is part of the Federal Government’s attempt to provide an alternative to National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) support for children with developmental delay or autism and who have low to moderate support needs.
Doctors will get access to time-tiered items 701, 703, 705 and 707, which attract rebates ranging from $71 for a brief assessment to $321.75 for an assessment lasting at least an hour.
There will be no requirement that any of the assessments will be bulk-billed.
