GP identifies patient with probable monkeypox in Sydney

Update 3pm 20 May 2022: A case of monkeypox has been confirmed in a Victorian man aged in his 30s.
The state’s Deputy Chief Health Officer said the man, who recently returned from the UK, had mild symptoms and was isolating.
A GP has identified probable monkeypox in an Australian returned traveller as health authorities in four countries contend with small, but unprecedented, outbreaks apparently driven by community transmission.
NSW Health announced today a man in his 40s with symptoms compatible with monkeypox — a disease caused by a zoonotic virus endemic in Central and West Africa — was awaiting confirmatory test results.
