GP in $574,000 work-from-home case ‘imprudently’ rejected settlement offers: judge

A GP ordered to pay $574,000 for breaching a six-year contract with a corporate “imprudently” refused four offers to settle the case, a federal court judge says.
The Melbourne GP was 18 months into his contract with Cornerstone Health when he developed avascular necrosis of the talus and asked to work from home using telehealth while he recovered.
When Cornerstone refused, the GP launched legal action under the Disability Discrimination Act.
The Federal Court of Australia found in Cornerstone’s favour last month, saying nothing compelled the corporate to vary the terms of the GP’s contract, which stated he had to attend the practice.
