A GP is suing for millions over a newspaper article that alleged he helped two footballers seek exemptions from the AFL’s COVID-19 vaccination mandate.

Dr Russell Cooper, who owns practices in Tasmania and Queensland, claims he was investigated by AHPRA and experienced a 40% drop in patient numbers because of a story published in The Age in February last year.

The article said the GP had provided correspondence to support West Coast’s Jack Darling and North Melbourne’s Jed Anderson as they allegedly sought exemptions from the AFL’s COVID-19 vaccination mandate.

It went on to claim Dr Cooper was a “prominent anti-5G campaigner” and a “leading voice against the alleged dangers of electromagnetic hypersensitivity”.
