GP loses appeal after medical board bans him from criticising COVID-19 vaccines on social media
A GP has lost his legal challenge against conditions preventing him from publicly criticising COVID-19 vaccines on social media as a doctor.
Dr Duncan Syme was initially suspended by the Medical Board of Australia in December 2022 following an immediate action hearing after a complaint about COVID-19 vaccine exemptions he had written.
An investigation revealed he had written 88 exemptions based on their “acute major medical illness” for patients he had not previously treated, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal heard.
All the consultations were by phone, with Dr Syme then sending handwritten notes to patients.
