GP loses registration over ‘experimental’ scripts

The SA doctor prescribed illegal drugs to 'prolong life' and improve cognitive impairment

A GP has been deregistered for two years over his “experimental” prescribing, including issuing scripts for illegal peptides to treat one woman’s low libido and fraying hair.

The SA doctor admitted he inappropriately prescribed medications to 20 patients between 2009 and 2018.

According to the SA Civil and Administrative Tribunal, a number of them were prescribed metformin for weight loss.

The GP also prescribed the non-TGA approved Growth Hormone-Releasing Peptide (GHRP) for lean muscle mass, muscle strength and, in one case, as an “adjunctive agent” to promote energy and compensate for testosterone suppression.
