GP payroll tax audits on pause for a year in NSW, govt says

The NSW Government is halting payroll tax audits on GP practices for a year while it consults with doctors over its next steps.
The announcement on Thursday from NSW Minister for Finance Courtney Houssos follows the release of tax rulings in both NSW and Victoria stating that GPs may be designated employees, not contractors, for tax purposes.
AusDoc understands that practices in NSW that have started paying off their tax debts will have to continue the repayments despite the pause.
However, practices that have disputed tax bills will be safe for the year.
