It's a smart way to fill appointment gaps, says participating GP Dr Mike Civil

Perth general practices will take on more urgent care cases under a pilot program aimed at reducing the strain on hospital EDs.

When WA Health’s GP Urgent Care Clinic Network pilot rolls out on 10 September, 133 metropolitan practices will be available for urgent but non-life-threatening cases between 8am and 8pm.

Among the conditions they’ll be managing are minor fractures, lacerations, minor burns, abdominal pain and wounds, and skin and soft-tissue infections.

Once treated, GPs will be required to hand each patient’s care back to their usual GP, to ensure continuity of care.
