A GP accused of aiding a mother’s attempt to kill her six-year-old daughter with a prescription drug has pleaded guilty to attempted murder, according to media reports.

WA Police charged Dr Pieter Theunis Austin back in February, alleging he wrote a script for Michelle Yvonne Gough that he knew would be administered to Ms Gough’s daughter to make her “pass away peacefully”.

The ABC reported that the prescription was for insulin and that the child’s disability meant she required full-time care.

Police had originally alleged that the child became unwell two days after Dr Austin wrote the prescription at his practice in Albany, but she was taken for treatment by another family member and was stabilised.
