GP practice defends fees at drive-in COVID-19 clinic

A state health minister has accused private medical clinics of charging patients for COVID-19 tests, describing it as a “disturbing” act that will hamper efforts to contain the virus.
“No individual in NSW, in Australia, should be paying a fee to have a COVID test … it is a vital part of our weaponry to defeat the virus,” NSW health minister Brad Hazzard told the media last week.
Practices have already rubbished the claims saying they are charging for consults, not the tests.
But Mr Hazzard said he was alarmed, claiming he had been shown footage of a GP charging patients at a driveway testing station in Sydney.
