GP practices face financial ruin as flood recovery drags on

A GP whose practice was flooded six months ago says she’s on the financial brink as she waits for her old practice to be rebuilt, after losing $1.5 million.
Dr Nina Robertson works out of a temporary practice with four consulting rooms, compared with the 12 at her old practice in Lismore, following the NSW and Queensland floods in February and March this year.
The downsizing means two GPs have left, with the six remaining doctors forced to work part-time because there is simply not enough room.
“Availability of tradespeople, availability of supplies, access to electricity — all of those issues have impacted our ability to recover,” Dr Robertson says.
