GP practices will cop $100 million payroll tax bill when amnesty ends, says Queensland Treasurer

The Queensland Government has admitted it will generate $100 million a year in tax revenue from GP practices once its payroll tax amnesty ends in 2025.
GP practices have until September to register for the state’s tax amnesty, yet it has emerged that only 93 have completed the paperwork so far, suggesting some 1300 practices could start receiving demands for payments if they do not act.
During a parliamentary hearing on Tuesday, state Treasurer Cameron Dick was asked about the amnesty announced back in February, which was seen as a major win for the specialty.
“I have heard the Liberal–National Party criticise the application of payroll tax to large corporate medical practices,” he said.
