GP puts ‘retirement’ on hold to help isolated town

After 18 months without a GP, the isolated SA community of Kimba needed a miracle or a hero.
The 1300 residents now have both, with GP Dr Graham Fleming set to travel 150km back and forth to Kimba from his long-time practice in Tumby Bay until a permanent GP can be recruited.
The decision to put his current role on hold was “simple”, he tells 6minutes.
“We have seven excellent doctors in Tumby Bay. It was just embarrassing that Kimba was struggling with no doctor at all.”
