GP referral networks crucial to stop cowboy cannabis prescribers, says top doctor

Knowing local GPs who prescribe medicinal cannabis is key to protecting patients from the “perfunctory” prescribers, says NSW Health’s chief addiction medicine specialist.
Sydney GP Dr Hester Wilson is urging GPs who do not prescribe medicinal cannabis to know where they can reliably refer patients who may benefit from the treatment.
“The majority of GPs will not prescribe medicinal cannabis, and there are good reasons for this given the limited clinical evidence for its use,” she says.
“I support GPs prescribing only what they feel comfortable and confident with.
