GP skin doctors say Medicare is out to get them

Skin cancer doctors say they are fleeing the sector amid a new Medicare crackdown on potential rorts and inappropriate claims.
Skin Cancer College Australasia (SCCA) says dozens of its members have been “unfairly targeted” by Medicare compliance officers in the past year, including a former president.
“An impression has been created that the Professional Services Review works under the assumption that many, if not all, skin cancer doctors are acting inappropriately in their billing,” college president Dr Keith Monnington says.
“This is unfair and inaccurate. We believe that, in some cases, the problem lies with the descriptor of the item number, not with the doctor.
