GP struck off for giving man under restraining order his ex-partner’s medical information

A GP has admitted to handing a woman’s medical information to the woman’s former partner who was under a domestic violence restraining order, newly published documents reveal.

The man then used the information to register a name for his former partner’s newborn child without the woman’s consent, according to a WA State Administrative Tribunal decision from October 2024, which was only published this month.

The tribunal said the WA GP had a “close personal relationship” with both the mother and father.

The GP had treated the woman until May 2021, something the tribunal said was already inappropriate given their relationship.
