A celebrated GP has been struck off the UK’s medical register for enrolling ineligible patients into clinical trials he conducted on behalf of Novartis Pharmaceuticals.

Dr Jerome Kerrane also acted dishonestly by retrospectively amending the medical records of patients involved in trials, heard the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service.

Furthermore, he had asked for the payment from one trial to be paid into his personal bank account instead of to the company conducting the research, for which he was named principal investigator.

According to pre-hearing information, the allegations covered an eight-year period from 2007 to 2015.
