GP supervisors: ‘We lose $19 for every hour we teach’

GP supervisors lose around $19 for every hour they spend teaching registrars rather than consulting patients, according to General Practice Supervisors Australia.
The claim is based on the maximum allowance for teaching set by the federal Department of Health measured against the revenue generated by a supervisor when they see four patients an hour who pay $65 each.
General Practice Supervisors Australia (GPSA) claims practices generally lose $90 an hour when supervisors teach.
The claims come amid a major revamp to the Australian General Practice Training program, with both supervisor and registrar pay still up in the air while details of the RACGP and ACRRM’s training models for 2023 are being thrashed out.
