GP to be lead plaintiff in latest class action against junior doctor wage theft

Some 1500-2000 former and current junior doctors are eligible for the claim, says lawyer Hayden Stephens.

The GP leading the latest class action for junior doctors over unpaid overtime is motivated by patient and doctor safety, her lawyer says.

Launceston GP Dr Emma Mackrill is the lead plaintiff in a wage theft case launched in Tasmania this week on behalf of around 1500-2000 junior doctors.

It follows successful class actions in NSW, ACT and Victoria, which resulted in mediated settlements of over $200m, $31m and $175m respectively.

The latest case involves junior doctors who worked at the Royal Hobart Hospital and Launceston General Hospital from May 2019 to the present, according to the claim lodged in the Supreme Court of Tasmania.
