GP to repay $760,000 in rebates for after-hours and long consults: PSR
A GP will repay $760,000 in rebates after the PSR found they had breached the 80/20 rule and inappropriately billed consultation items, including after-hours consults.
No exceptional circumstances justified the GP providing more than 80 consultations a day on 25 days within 12 months, the PSR said in its August update.
“The director had persisting concerns that many of the rendered services did not have any documentary evidence to support that the practitioner rendered a service for which Medicare benefits were paid,” the PSR said.
Even when evidence did support the consultations, the GP had failed to meet MBS requirements, including minimum time requirements, the watchdog said.
