GP training revival: Government funds 306 extra registrar positions to meet high demand

It takes 2026 Australian General Practice Training program places to 2124.

The Federal Government is funding 306 extra GP training places this year amid high interest, barely three years since GP training faced its worst collapse.

It takes 2026 Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) program places to 2124, with 1772 allocated to the RACGP and 352 to ACRRM.

The extra 306 posts, which come on top of 200 new posts announced last May, all are RACGP positions.

With selection still going, posts could remain unfilled.
