GP-turned-MP brands privately run public hospital a ‘failed experiment’ following two deaths

The beleaguered public but privately-run Northern Beaches Hospital is to go under the microscope again following the deaths of a toddler and newborn.
But GP and independent federal MP Dr Sophie Scamps says it is too late for a second state government inquiry into the Sydney hospital, declaring the public–private partnership model a failed experiment.
She has called for the 488-bed hospital — which has previously been criticised over staff shortages, patient safety risks and discharge summaries — to be returned to public hands, even though the contract still has at least 15 years to run.
“This is an experiment that has failed on so many levels,” Dr Scamps, who represents the Northern Beaches seat of Mackellar, tells 6minutes.
