GP urgent care clinic failing to open every day because of staffing shortage
A GP clinic at a major hospital advertised as a seven-days-a-week service has been closed for at least 18 days this year.
Located in the grounds of the Northern Beaches Hospital, it is meant to relieve pressure on the adjoining Emergency Department by offering treatment for lower urgency cases such as sports injuries, minor fractures and migraine.
Its website lists about 15 GPs who help to staff the clinc.
Healthcare provider Healthscope, which runs both the private and public health services on the site, is blaming a national shortage of GPs for the intermittent closures.
