GP urgent care clinics accused of skimping on opening hours

A newly opened GP urgent care clinic has hit out at media claims that the centres are failing to achieve their goal of opening 14 hours a day.
Chad Kaluarachchi, program manager at the Primary Priority Care Centre in the Melbourne suburb of Sunbury, has responded to reports in News Corp papers saying clinics were operating for fewer hours than promised.
The report said that four of Victoria’s nine federally funded urgent care clinics had failed to meet the opening hours pledged by the Federal Government, 8am to 10pm.
A clinic in Shepparton was targeted for closing its doors three days a week — at least temporarily — due to a lack of doctors, while the Sunbury clinic was highlighted for only opening for eight hours a day.
