GP urges coroner to make ‘bold’ findings after pregnant daughter’s sepsis death

A GP has told a coronial inquest that the health system failed his pregnant daughter who died of sepsis after treatment at two private hospitals.
Five years ago Dr Brian Moylan’s daughter Annie O’Brien died from sepsis hours after delivering her stillborn baby.
“I challenge this court to be courageous and to be forensic in pursuit of the facts concerning Annie’s death and to make bold findings and recommendations toward improvements in the health system in Victoria,” Dr Moylan said.
His daughter who was 18-weeks pregnant had originally presented to Holmesglen Private Hospital in Melbourne complaining of vomiting, diarrhoea, sweats and a fever.
